Welcome to the home of the Australian Centre for Restraint Reduction and Elimination. Founded in 2023 by Sharon Paley, we aim to provide quality evidence based professional development and support to disability services, behaviour support practitioners, child safety professionals, professionals working in education and healthcare.

ACRRE IS COMMITTED TO:

Promoting human rights through the delivery of evidence-based advice, professional development and supervision.

Promoting practice leadership by providing authoritative evidence-based advice and information to professionals and organisations.

 

Promoting approaches that reduce and eliminate reliance on aversive practices, including restrictive practices.

 

Adopting inclusive practices in all we do with a focus on person centred strategies including co-production, listening to experts and acting on the voices of lived experience.

Sharon Paley: CEO & Founder

Sharon is a specialist registered nurse with over 40 years’ experience in disability, social care and education in the UK and Australia. She has extensive practice experience having started her career in schools and working as a family support worker. She has extensive practice experience of working in and managing services for people with intellectual disability and complex needs, including risk behaviour, having also worked within forensic settings. Sharon is the primary author of government policy that has been enacted in the UK and Australia.

She received a Florence Nightingale Scholarship for her work on reducing and eliminating restrictive practice and 3 international awards for her work promoting behaviour support; and was awarded lifetime membership of the British Institute of Learning Disability, BILD in 2012.

Sharon is the elected Vice President of the Professional Association of Nurses in Developmental Disability (PANDDA) and is one of the longest service members of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Positive Behavioural Support.

She lives in semi-rural Queensland, in the rainforest hinterland of Brisbane, with her husband and their Burmese cats. She enjoys walking, time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and will sell her soul for a good lemon meringue pie.
